Celebrating Strengths, Creating Synergy: SCPA’s First Strengths Forum Inspires Collaboration

2 / 19 / 2024

MANILA, Philippines – Sanitary Care Products Asia, Inc. (SCPA) celebrated its second Strengths Day with its first Strengths forum last February 7, 2023. Gallup Certified Strengths coaches Kit Llamas, Ardy Abello, Aikee Enciso, and Arvy Villamarzo headlined the panel discussion centered on celebrating, embracing, and appreciating our Strengths.

Being a Strengths-based company, SCPA has always been passionate about using Strengths to drive individual and team performance to achieve organizational goals. The Strengths Day is a part of SCPA’s ongoing Strengths Program, which aims to help employees develop and utilize their strengths professionally and in their personal lives.

The first Strengths Day in 2023 emphasized using individual Strengths to improve personal performance. This year, the forum focused on self-awareness, prompting reflection on Strengths, navigating blind spots, and leveraging teammates for collective strength.

Navigating Blind Spots

Gallup-Certified Strengths Coaches talking about using our Strengths for Synergy

During the discussion, the panel offered another point-of-view — moving beyond the focus on Strengths alone and shining light on weaknesses. Coach Aikee set the tone with a statement: “For me, to truly embrace who I am, I first need to embrace who I’m not.”

His quote reminded the team that weaknesses, just like our Strengths, are part of who we are. Part of celebrating, appreciating, and embracing talent is acknowledging that weaknesses are okay.

Coach Kit, building upon this insight, encouraged employees to delve into the bottom 10 of their Top Strengths, aka their blind spots. In our Strengths journey, if we aren’t applying our Strengths correctly or are overusing them, these can become our personal lapses. Naturally, we try our best to remedy them by working on them.

However, a crucial nuance emerged – there are times when it’s more beneficial to refrain from over-focusing on the least of your Strengths. Doing so may lead to burnout, not just for yourself, but you can also affect others. “We must realize that we can use our strengths to lift other people, or we can use it to bring others down,” says Coach Kit.

Instead, the coaches recommended seeking collaboration with others who excel in those areas.

Fostering Synergy Through Different Strengths

To cultivate effective synergy, it is essential to communicate strengths and weaknesses openly. Rather than feeling pressured to master a particular Strength, consider the strategy of talent spotting. This entails establishing collaborative partnerships with colleagues whose Top 5 Strengths complement your own, promoting a harmonious and mutually beneficial working dynamic.

This strategy prevents the overuse of individual strengths and provides an opportunity to uplift teammates. According to Coach Arvy, authentic use of strengths involves empowering not only oneself but also those around you. Recognizing that each person has areas of strength where others may excel, we can effectively fill the gaps within the team. “When you work with people and truly identify what they’re good at, that’s where synchronicity happens as they bring their best to the table,” he said.

Excellence is not a lone man’s job. It is created through the merging of people’s differing strengths. When team members value each other’s Strengths, they more effectively relate to each other, boost group solidarity, avoid conflicts, and promote positive dialogues.

As SCPA continues to champion the principles of openness, collaboration, and continuous learning, the Strengths Forum becomes a cornerstone in our ongoing pursuit of excellence. Through this forum, we celebrate not just individual achievements but the strength of our united efforts, propelling SCPA towards greater heights of success and fulfillment.
