TANAY, RIZAL – Sanicare, a trusted hygiene brand in the Philippines, continues its commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship through its annual tree planting activity in partnership with the Haribon Foundation.  

This year, the brand planted 1,250 native seedlings at Sitio Batong Suso, Brgy. Sto. Nino, Tanay, Rizal. The planting activity focused on helping conserve a Haribon-adopted ancestral site, which is also a protected area within the Sierra Madre range. The range, often called the “Backbone of Luzon,” serves as a natural shield that protects communities from typhoons.   

The site, described by Haribon Conservationist Nova Regalario as a lupaing ninuno or ancestral domain, is home to indigenous communities whose way of life is closely tied to the forest. The area’s rich ecosystem provide the community with food, water, and natural resources for daily living—such as plants for medicine, bamboo for handicraft, and wood for shelter. 

Protecting and restoring these lands helps preserve not only the environment but also the cultural heritage and sustainable traditions of its native stewards.   

As of August 2025, 11 hectares have already been successfully planted, and with Sanicare’s contribution this year, a total of 12 hectares have been restored with the thriving native trees 

Planting Indigenous Roots for a Sustainable Tomorrow 

Sanicare and Haribon prioritize indigenous tree species such as Narra, Pili, and Igan to promote soil enrichment and resilience against drought. These native trees ensure biodiversity restoration and align with Haribon’s promotion of sustainable forest rehabilitation.  

By planting native species, Sanicare and Haribon ensure that reforestation efforts create healthy, self-sustaining forests that restore the biodiversity of the area. Unlike introduced varieties, native trees are naturally adapted to the local soil and climate conditions—enabling them to thrive while supporting the surrounding ecosystem. In such reforestation efforts, focusing on native species secures the preservation of the land’s natural heritage and resilience.  

A Decade of Greening the Philippines 

Since 2014, Sanicare and Haribon have shared a long-term mission to nurture a greener Philippines. Over the years, this collaboration has planted more than 15,000 seedlings across over 10 hectares of land— from Laguna to Rizal and Subic—achieving an impressive 93% survival rate.  

The reforestation efforts have expanded forest cover by an estimated 40.3 hectares, improved air quality, enriched soil health, and strengthened natural ecosystems that support local wildlife and communities.  

Beyond Tree Planting: Cultivating a Culture of Care 

Sanicare’s collaboration with Haribon extends beyond the planting of trees. The brand adopts forests by providing ongoing financial support for seedling maintenance and site protection, ensuring the long-term survival of the trees.  

Each year, the team encourages employees from different regions to participate in the planting. Through these activities, employees connect with nature, strengthen camaraderie, and reinforce the brand’s core value of care—for people, communities, and the planet. Euleen Milan, Procurement Officer, reflected on the meaningful impact of the initiative: “I learned that caring for the earth starts with simple acts like planting a single tree. It gave me a sense of purpose and connection to nature. The activity reminded me how small actions can make a big difference.”
